2018 Ice Cream Trends To Watch Out For
on Monday, January 22, 20182017 was a fun year for ice cream and frozen desserts. We saw some of the most innovative serving methods performed by dexterous street vendors overseas via viral videos peppering our timelines. We tried charcoal colored ice cream served on black sugar cones and dubbed “eternally gothic” (they were actually eternally vanilla) and we sampled all manner of creative ice cream sandwiches, waffles, and shakes. If these trends were any indication, 2018 is going to be a great year for ice cream and frozen yogurt. Here are some exciting trend forecasts for our favorite frozen desserts.
Fish-Shaped ‘Taiyaki’ Cones
Last year, this trend swept Japanese foodie timelines as the most Instagrammable frozen treat of summer. Soft serve, topped with colorful garnishes and served in a fish-shaped waffle cone foreshadows what is sure to be the next big thing in American ice cream trends.
Cotton Candy Cloud Cones
Another huge Japanese trend, this sugary delight made its way stateside in 2017, but only on a few trendy locales (Los Angles, NYC) offered it. The dessert is a classic soft serve cone enveloped in a diaphanous cloud of glittering cotton candy. Get ready to see this ethereal creation featured on more than a few Instagram feeds during Summer 2018.
Rolled Ice Cream
This trend seemed to just find its legs as summer was winding to a close. Expect it to resume its frozen desert takeover this summer as well.
