Summer Sports and Post Game FroYo – A Historyon Friday, August 4, 2017
A child shields their eyes from the unforgiving sun which bounces mercilessly off the brilliant green of the summer soccer/baseball/football field. A few yards away, a parent mops hot beads of glistening sweat from below the brim of their cap, garishly emblazoned with their child’s team logo. In the distance, the shrill blast of a referee’s whistle signals the end of the game. Parents commiserate behind dark sunglasses and children line up to give a sportsman-like round of high fives. The game is over, which can only mean one thing; it’s time for a towering swirl of rich, creamy frozen yogurt.
For ages, parents and children have lined up along chilled counters to either place their froyo order or to serve themselves to their heart’s desire. While the end of the game season may belong to the esteemed pizza party, each post game belongs to the shining white tiles and the gleaming silver handles of the froyo counter.
The reason is simple; more than just a refreshing treat that eases the afternoon heat, frozen yogurt is full of healthy benefits — particularly beneficial after the excess loss of electrolytes. The freezing temps help regulate your child’s core temperature, which will escalate considerably during mid-summer matches, the calcium will help in the development of strong bones, another sporty necessity, and the active cultures contained within a serving a yogurt can help regulate digestion and keep those adolescent guts healthy and primed for the end of season pizza party.
