How do you decide what toppings to put on your Frozen Yogurt? Most likely you just pick a base flavor you like and then top it off with a bunch of options that you also like. Not bad. But what if you approached it like a trained chef and decided to create an entire flavor profile where the toppings were created a harmony of taste that balanced each other out? In other words, How would a trained chef approach a Frozen Yogurt Bar?

Here is the answer. We went to Food and Wine Magazine and found out what if you edited your toppings to create a thematic flavor? Here are a few topping combos that are sure winners and may even inspire you create a flavor profile theme of your own.

PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY

Toppings: Strawberries, Reese’s Peanut Butter, Chopped Peanuts

This is a way to return to a classic. You can either go with a nice base like cake batter froyo and add Peanut Butter and Jelly flavors or go with a berry base and add Reeese’s Peanut butter and berries. Also recommended is reversing it, when peanut butter froyo is available and adding fresh berries as a topping. Don’t forget the nuts for added texture!

S’MORES

Toppings: Marshmallows and Chocolate

This is an easy one to create and will remind you of being by the camp fire.  Try adding marshmallows and then running hot fudge over them. Even if we don’t have graham crackers you throw in some kit kat or waffle pieces for the crunch.

PEACH PINA COLADA

Toppings: Coconut, Peach Rings, Raspberry and Cherries

When we have Coconut Milk as a froyo flavor you are already halfway there. When we have fresh pineapples you can have a more traditional Pina Colada. You can always upgrade with the fruit profile with peach rings and add coconut toppings. Add just a touch of raspberry or a single cherry on top.

BERRY HEALTHY HIKE

Toppings: blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, almonds and granola

This is a perfect berry combination that is fit for a hiking adventure. These are classic toppings that would go into a breakfast yogurt dish, except your using froyo as the base. It is a classic combination of flavors you can’t go wrong with.

SATURDAY MORNING CEREAL

Toppings: Fruity Pebbles & Cap’n Crunch

If you grew up in the 80’s you could only watch cartoons on Saturday Mornings. Long before cable and flat screen TVs. Besides the warm glow of the television set you also had a bowl of milk and cereal to keep you company with the Smurfs, Super friends or Spiderman.
