Frenzi Frozen Yogert_3 Fruity Treat Ideas For Spring_02

A custom made, frozen yogurt sundae from Frenzi couldn’t pair more perfectly with a bright, breezy, Gresham spring day. And fresh fruit is a complement to both that should be included with aplomb. Celebrate spring with one these delightful froyo, candy and fresh fruit combinations:

Cheesecake Cobbler

Pair cheesecake and peach froyo, then top with towering scoops of fresh blackberries, chopped almonds, and waffle pieces. The results are a decadent sundae perfect for a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Raspberry Milkshake

Mix a cup of cake batter froyo with raspberry froyo and top with raspberries, coconut and a pile of frothy whipped cream. Sprinkles to be added sparingly once you’ve constructed your ultimate sundae. Finish with a single maraschino cherry balanced at the very top of your creation.

Cracker Jack Confection

Don’t miss out on our seasonal fave, salted caramel corn frozen yogurt; blend it with almond milk froyo and top with generous scoops of crushed peanuts, blueberries, and strawberries.

Our Favorite Holiday Has Finally Arrived! Happy National FroYo Day!

Frenzi_national froyo day 2019_01

Today is our favorite holiday! We’ve been planning for this day for months, we’ve made all the preparations and we’re finally ready to celebrate with all our favorite Gresham locals and froyo fans around the world.

That’s right, it’s National Frozen Yogurt Day!

You may be wondering how today, arguably the most important day of the year, escaped your calendar. Well, you certainly aren’t alone in this pondering — the true origins of National FroYo day are actually a mystery. Even though nationwide, we eat over 121 million servings annually, we’re 10 times as likely to choose frozen yogurt over decadent ice cream, and there are nearly a thousand froyo shops dotting the map from coast to coast, we still have no idea whose great idea it was to proclaim today, of all days, a national holiday in celebration of frozen yogurt.

But we have a few hypotheses:

  • From the dawn of time, February 6th has always been frozen yogurt day, we only just realized it.
  • TCBY made it up in 1980 to boost interest in what — at the time was — a decidedly polarizing “healthy” frozen desert masquerading as ice cream.
  • Dannon Inc. created the day to promote their own failed attempts at marketing frozen yogurt in the 1930s.
  • Writers of the hit 80s television show ALF invented it for an episode and we collectively accepted it as gospel and added it to our national calendar.

No matter where this miraculous holiday originated from, we’re ready to celebrate it with all of you! Visit Frenzi Frozen Yogurt today to join us in observation of this high holiday with a creamy FroYo sundae with all your favorite toppings.

New Flavors! Invent Your Own Caramel Apple Swirl Sundae!

Frenzi Frozen Yogert_caramel apple swirl

A perfect mixture of sweet and tart, a caramel apple is a scrumptious reminder that autumn has arrived. Halloween without caramel apples just isn’t right, but the caramel apple wasn’t even invented until the 1950s, way after the beginnings of Halloween celebrations. As a matter of fact, it was the happy byproduct of leftover Halloween candy that brought the accidental invention of this sticky fall treat.

Caramel apples were invented in the 1950s by Kraft Foods employee Dan Walker, who decided to melt the excess caramels from Halloween sales and simply added apples. The rest is history. Caramel apples were made by hand for the first decade after its invention. In 1960, Vito Raimondi of Chicago, Illinois made and patented the first automated caramel apple machine after finding that hand-dipping caramel apples was all too tiring while working in his uncle William Raimondi’s candy shop. The company is now the largest producer of machine-dipped, singly-packaged caramel apples.

Froyo Flavor of the Week: Pumpkin

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Froyo Flavor of the Week Pumpkin

Fall is in full swing, which means pumpkin flavored anything is lurking around every corner. Well, of course we don’t mind and to show our allegiance to all pumpkin flavor enthusiasts, we are now serving our very own pumpkin flavored froyo at Frenzi!

Yet, what is this pumpkin spice flavor exactly, and why does everyone love it so much? Although traditional pumpkin spice is a blend of spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and ginger, the pumpkin spice that is in most desserts today is actually a mix of spices and pumpkin puree giving recipes that signature “Fall” taste. That aromatic pumpkin flavor reminds us of our favorite comfort foods. “It’s like a warm blanket on a cool autumn day, with falling leaves and the crisp smell of fall.”

To kick off your fall season with some real comfort, indulge yourself with a cup, bowl, or waffle cone of pumpkin froyo at Frenzi today! And you don’t have to stop there. Because pumpkin goes with just about anything. Add some graham crackers and whipped cream—et voila! It’s pumpkin pie!

Add a smathering of other toppings and blend it all in our milkshake machine for a thick pumpkin shake sure to satisfy your every pumpkin craving, at least until tomorrow.

Jump on the pumpkin bandwagon with a refreshingly delightful pumpkin froyo creation at Frenzi! But don’t wait too long. We all know that this pumpkin fellow doesn’t stick around nearly long enough.

Froyo Flavor of the Week: The Secret History of Peanut Butter

Frenzi_Frozen_Yogurt_Flavors_Peanut_Butter

At Frenzi you can get peanut butter-inspired froyo, but where did peanut butter come from? Was it invented by a corporation or discovered by an ancient culture in central Mexico? Let’s find out how this frozen yogurt favorite was inspired through the ages.

THE SECRET HISTORY OF PEANUT BUTTER

Peanut butter has many fathers. In fact, many corporations take credit for patenting the process of making this modern-day favorite. Corporate titans like Skippy, Peter Pan, and even Dr. Kellogg of Kellogg cereal fame have all laid claim to the tasty creamy peanut-ty flavor, but it may be the Aztec who deserve proper credit. Let’s start in the year 1931 and go backwards.

PETER PAN GETS IN A FIGHT

The peanut butter we know, and love didn’t exist until 1922 when Joseph L. Rosenfield patented a process using partially hydrogenated oil. It was smoother than the gritty peanut butters that came before and was packaged by the Peter Pan Peanut Butter Company. Ultimately, though, Mr. Rosenfield got into a fight with Peter Pan and decided to sell his process to Skippy.

KELLOGG OF KELLOGGS CEREAL CALLS IT NUT-MEAL

Back then, it wasn’t called peanut butter, it was called nut-meal and Dr. John Harvey Kellogg received a patent for the process of nut-meal in 1896. Even though the National Peanut Board gives credit to this quack, purists believe that unless you use roasted nuts (as opposed to Kellogg’s steamed nuts) it is not peanut butter.

A CANADIAN CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT

Another name change, this stuff was called peanut-candy. In 1884, a patent was awarded to a Canadian chemist named Marcellus Gilmore Edson. He was trying to invent a flavoring paste. The process described running roasted peanuts through a heated mill to produce a fluid or semi-fluid by-product that cools into “a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment.”

AZTEC AND INCA USED IT AS MEDICINE

True, before modern marketers of peanut butter filed patents to claim the invention of peanut butter, the Aztec were already making it for two millennia. Unlike Dr. Kellogg, they used roasted nuts and mashed them into a paste. It was a little chunkier and it tasted a little different than today—but it was more about its medicinal properties than being a food. The Aztec used it primarily as a remedy for toothaches.

So when you visit Frenzi Frozen Yogurt in downtown Gresham to create your own perfect peanut butter-based froyo delight today, you can probably thank the Aztec and their ingenuity in the field of dentistry for inventing that beloved peanut butter flavor.

The TV Show That Is Obsessed With FroYo

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_ The TV Show That Is Obsessed With FroYo

Frozen Yogurt is an easy obsession. It’s healthy and it tastes good, plus when you go to a froyo shop you can create your own masterpiece. 79 percent of snackers prefer froyo to ice-cream and 44 percent said they would rather give up TV for a week before they would give up froyo. Fortunately for some, you wouldn’t have to. There is actually a TV show that is obsessed with Froyo; The Good Place.

The Good Place is a town where those who have been good throughout their lives go once they have passed away. Michael (Ted Danson) is the architect who oversees the town. Eleanor (Kristen Bell) arrives at the Good Place and realizes she doesn’t deserve to be there.

LOTS OF FROYO SHOPS

Once you are introduced to the good place you realize there is a FroYo shop on every corner. Each froyo shop is different with a clever name; Let’s All Eat Yogurt, Yogurt Horizons, Yogurt Yoghurt Yogurté. The Good Place has them all.

UNLIMITED FROYO FLAVORS

At first glance the froyo flavors seem standard. The flavors start with raspberry sorbet and adventure on to potato chips and Maine lobster. Then the flavors start to describe feelings and situations like the perfect high five, skinny dipping, cancelled plans, empty inbox, inside jokes, stardust, and full cell phone battery, which is the one Eleanor (Bell) samples and claims it makes her feel relaxed.

OBSESSED ABOUT THE OBSESSION

There is a whole other level of obsession that can be applied here. You can be obsessed about the show’s froyo obsession by quoting every episode that referenced froyo. But wait. Before you take on such a feat, you might be glad to know that it has already been done—by Food & Wine magazine—of all publications. You can click the following link if you want all six FroYo Episodes broken down.

If you want to know what “Full Cell Phone Battery” tastes like, you can watch the clip below:
