Popular Japanese 24k Gold Ice Cream Cone Arrives Stateside!

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Popular Japanese 24k Gold Ice Cream Cone Arrives Stateside

We love a good Instagram/Facebook/Snapchat trend, especially when they involve provocative deserts. And all our research has led us to the conclusion that this singular 24k ice cream concept is sure to kick off spring and summer’s biggest social media sharing trend. The 24k ice cream cone, complete with edible gold flake and a golden cone, initially went viral in Japan, but is now being served just a stone’s throw away from the Magic Kingdom at Snowopolis in Anaheim, California.

Though Hakuichi Ice Cream Shop in Kanazawa, Japan started the 2016 craze when they wrapped their vanilla soft serve in an edible layer of gold, Snowopolis has taken the trend to its logical next level, not only enrobing their soft serve in gold but serving the delicacy atop gold flecked waffle cones.

At nearly 15 dollars for a single cone, it’s not a trend to be indulged in with any frequency, but next time you and your family visit Disneyland, make sure to snap of pic of yourselves with a dazzling 24k gold ice cream cone.

At Frenzi Frozen Yogurt you can create your own trend-worthy sundae with our delicious seasonal and classic froyo flavors. Visit our menu to plan your next drool worthy social media post.

How To Eat An Ice Cream Cone

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Why We Love Ice Cream

Are you a sugar cone slurper, a cake cone cruncher, a waffle cone warrior, or a cone in a cup kind of character? Either way, we should get a few things straight; there are right ways and wrong ways to go about enjoying your cones. Consider this simple guide to eating an ice cream cone next time you’ve earned a frosty treat, and you’ll find yourself enjoying your reward that much more.

Biting and licking are both acceptable ways of consuming your ice cream cone — don’t let anyone tell you different. If your front teeth can take charge of your scoops without fear of temperature shock, we salute you.

Always lick the drips. Sure, you can be the conscientious ice cream eater and keep a napkin tucked away to avoid sticky leftovers, but a truly dedicated ice cream cone enthusiast will lovingly slurp every last rivulet of slow-melting ice cream whether it’s cascading down a wrist, a forearm or covering every single finger.

Don’t give up on your cone. The worst faux pas an ice cream eater can make is to toss away a half-finished cone after realizing that perhaps their eyes were too big for their stomachs. Know your ice cream limits and you’ll enjoy your cone that much more.

Visit Frenzi Frozen Yogurt today to try out your new cone suggestions on a single, double, or triple scoop of our own wide variety of Cascade Glacier ice creams.

“Ice Cream Cone Fossil” Found In Appalachian Mountains

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Ice Cream Cone Fossil Found In Appalachian Mountains

In late January of this year, archeologists working amongst rocks of the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania identified the fossil of an unknown, ancient, soft-bodied creature. This was remarkable for a variety of reasons, but our interest in it lies solely with its remarkable resemblance to a tiny ice cream cone.

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Ice Cream Cone Fossil Found In Appalachian Mountains-1

Jan Zalasiewicz, a paleontologist at the University of Leicester’s School of Geography, Geology and the Environment explained that the paleontologists who found the fossil know it lived alongside ancient plankton during the Ordovician era, several hundred million years ago, but most of the fossils from that era have hard outer shells. As a result, almost everything scientists know about life on Earth at this time is based on fossils of creatures that had skeletons.*

The research team responsible for this exceptional discovery hope that the fossil will yield some clues about what types of non-skeleton-bearing creatures existed during the Ordovician time period (which lasted 45 million years, starting 488 million years ago and ending 443 million years ago). “The ancient world of the Ordovician, some 450 million years ago, was one of a huge expansion of life in the seas of our planet,” said Zalasiewicz in a statement.

Who Exactly Is This Carolina Reaper Ice Cream For, Anyway?

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Who Exactly Is This Carolina Reaper Ice Cream For Anyway-2

This Valentine’s day, Scottish ice cream parlor, Aldwych Café, has created a delicate, ballerina pink dessert to entice its love-struck clientele. Tread perilously, however, because the bubble-gum pink hue of this frozen treat is not a result of a mixture of robust red berries, it is the result of the ice cream’s main ingredient, The Carolina Reaper, the hottest chili in the world.

Respiro Del Diavolo, or Breath of the Devil, is an ice cream infused with ferociously spicy Carolina Reaper peppers and described by the shop as “a thermal nuclear explosion in your mouth.”  Not only is this ice cream so devastatingly hot that employees are required to serve it wearing gloves, anyone brave enough to try this treat must be over 18 years old and must sign a waiver acknowledging that consuming this ice cream might cause serious injury.

The Carolina Reaper chili pepper boasts 1,569,300 Scoville Heat Units (the unit by which a spiciness of chili peppers is measured). With an average jalapeno pepper measuring about 3,000 Scoville Heat Units, you can quickly guestimate just how destructive a serving of Respiro Del Diavolo is.

Braver souls than we will surely be partaking in this challenge over Valentine’s Day, but we recommend a visit to Frenzi for folks who prefer their frozen treats to leave them feeling jovial and content rather than sweaty and possibly traumatized.

How Sprinkles Almost Squashed The Museum of Ice Cream

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_How Sprinkles Almost Squashed The Museum of Ice Cream

If you enjoy ice cream, other people’s creative selfies, and modern art, there’s a chance that these three themes collided on your social media feed recently a-la the Museum of Ice Cream. The Museum of Ice Cream started in Manhattan as an interactive art exhibit comprised of a brightly colored maze of ice cream and candy themed rooms containing “among other things, a rock-candy cave, a unicorn, and a swimming pool of rainbow sprinkles.”

Numerous celebrities were photographed lounging in that pool full of rainbow sprinkles, including Beyonce, JayZ, and their daughter, Blue Ivy. But it was that pool that almost derailed the Miami incarnation of the popular installation. The imitation sprinkles were found littering sidewalks and streets surrounding the museum. The stormwater drain implications reportedly presented an “environmental hazard,” according the Miami New Times. Additionally, it would seem that the museum was potentially contributing to a larger, ecological problem. When small, colorful plastic pieces litter open water, many seas creatures mistake them for food. The world’s oceans are reported to contain 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic, of which the Museum of Ice Cream could be inadvertently contributing to on a significant local scale.

The museum has since made many considerable changes to accommodate the concerns of locals by changing the location of the pool, installing blowers and vacuums to remove rouge sprinkles as visitors roam the exhibits, and triple layering all drains to catch miscreant sprinkles.

Selfies with ice cream art sure sounds like fun, come get a selfie of your own at Frenzi Frozen Yogurt with your custom made sundae creation. Visit our menu to plan your next visit.

Our Favorite Holiday Has Finally Arrived! Happy National FroYo Day!

CELEBRATE_FROYODAY

Today is our favorite holiday! We’ve been planning for this day for months, we’ve made all the preparations and we’re finally ready to celebrate with all our favorite Gresham locals and froyo fans around the world.

That’s right, it’s National Frozen Yogurt Day!

You may be wondering how today, arguably the most important day of the year, escaped your calendar. Well, you certainly aren’t alone in this pondering — the true origins of National FroYo day are actually a mystery. Even though nationwide, we eat over 121 million servings annually, we’re 10 times as likely to choose frozen yogurt over decadent ice cream, and there are nearly a thousand froyo shops dotting the map from coast to coast, we still have no idea whose great idea it was to proclaim today, of all days, a national holiday in celebration of frozen yogurt.

But we have a few hypotheses:

  • From the dawn of time, February 6th has always been frozen yogurt day, we only just realized it.
  • TCBY made it up in 1980 to boost interest in what — at the time was — a decidedly polarizing “healthy” frozen desert masquerading as ice cream.
  • Dannon Inc. created the day to promote their own failed attempts at marketing frozen yogurt in the 1930s.
  • Writers of the hit 80s television show ALF invented it for an episode and we collectively accepted it as gospel and added it to our national calendar.

No matter where this miraculous holiday originated from, we’re ready to celebrate it with all of you! Visit Frenzi Frozen Yogurt today to join us in observation of this high holiday with a creamy FroYo sundae with all your favorite toppings.

3 More Ridiculous FroYo Sundaes You’ve GOT to Try

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_3 More Ridiculous FroYo Sundaes You've GOT to Try

The froyo scientists behind the counters at Frenzi Frozen Yogurt have been hard at work creating these three new outrageous sundaes for all of our favorite adventurous froyo eaters. Try them as our brilliant specialists suggest or make them own with even more additions.

Bananas Foster

Add one part salted caramel corn froyo to one part island banana froyo for a caramelized banana desert reminiscent of a candlelit New Orlean’s cafe on a hot summer night. Top this romantic sundae with chopped almonds, whipped cream, and a maraschino cherry. Feeling saucy? Finish it with a drizzle of caramel syrup.

Chocolate Covered Banana

Anyone who’s ever spent a hot summer day wandering around the county fairgrounds has, at the very least, witnessed someone consume a dewy, chocolate covered banana. They loved it, and you can too by adding one part classic chocolate froyo to one part island banana froyo and topping it with chopped peanuts and waffle cone pieces.

Banana Bread

Combine one part cake batter froyo, one part island banana froyo, and just a touch each of salted caramel corn and country vanilla froyo. Top with chopped almonds, whipped cream and a whisper of coconut.

Why Frozen Yogurt is Such a Great Ice Cream Alternative for Kids

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Why Does Ice Cream Makes Us Happy

90s kids likely remember weekend visits to their local TCBY, maybe after a sports game, an academic achievement, or as a reward for something significant. The common conception at the time was that frozen yogurt was a healthy alternative to decadent ice cream, an indulgence parents could feel comfortable sharing with their kids.

The wonder of those retro frozen yogurt counters went beyond the hypnotic pour of the frozen yogurt from a frosty tap, it included the rapturous toppings that seemed to include everything in the pantry, from savory pretzel bits to tiny mouthfuls of decimated candy bars. As a child in the hallowed walls of a frozen yogurt shop in the mid-90s, the possibilities were infinite, the combinations astronomical, and the results almost guaranteed to be enormously memorable.

Today the assumption that frozen yogurt can be considered any form of health food has been largely debunked, but the allure remains and for good reason. A child at the counter of a frozen yogurt shop has the unique opportunity to experiment; to try new flavors, attempt unlikely combinations, and allow their imagination to influence something they get to eat themselves. It’s not quite cooking, but the concepts can be construed; let a child create something themselves to foster autonomy, creativity, and to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Come into Frenzi today to treat yourself and your kiddo to a well-warranted froyo sundae or handmade milkshake. Frenzi offers a wide variety of flavors and toppings for you to choose from, so you can try out all kinds of awesome flavor combinations! Visit our menu to see current flavors!
