Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Your Ice Cream Social Summer Playlist-1

Ice cream is made mention of in songs all across the board, from country ballads to rap anthems, but here are three songs in particular that tout our favorite frozen treats that should definitely make it onto your summer playlist. Spend an afternoon celebrating the return of ice cream and froyo weather with these cool jams.

Louis Prima – Banana Split For My Baby

“Banana split for my baby

A glass of plain water for me

Banana split for my baby

A glass of plain water for me

Dispenser Man, if you please

Serve my chick a mess of calories

Banana split for my baby

A glass of plain water for me”

Jonathan Richmond – Ice Cream Man

“Well now, ice cream man, upon my street

I heard your truck outside, it’s really neat

Ice cream man, upon my block

Your little chimes, they reel and they rock

Ice cream man, ring your bell

Play the music, I’ve learned to love so well

Ice cream man, ring your chimes

In the afternoon so fine

Ice cream man, upon my street

I heard your truck today, it was a-neat, a-neat, a-neat”

Kelis – Milkshake

“My milk shake brings all the boys to the yard,

And they’re like,

It’s better than yours,

D*mn right it’s better than yours,

I can teach you,

But I have to charge”

Our Favorite Ice Cream Inspired Movie Moments

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Our Favorite Ice Cream Inspired Movie Moments

Our shared national love of ice cream is evidenced loud and clear in our pop culture references. From the soda fountain portraits that graced The Saturday Evening Post to Daniel Day-Lewis bellowing “I drink your milkshake!” in the dusty 2007 epic There Will Be Blood, ice cream strikes a chord in each of us and these unforgettable movie moments are a testament to just how pervasive ice cream is in American culture.

Forrest Gump

If you can’t do a pitch-perfect impression of Forrest Gump’s signature syrupy twang while he imprudently offers, “Lieutenant Dan, I gotchu some ice cream. Lieutenant Dan, ice cream.” Are you even American?

Pulp Fiction

The 90s were a great year for ice cream in the movies. Mia Wallace single-handedly brought $5 milkshakes into the fore right before she and Vincent Vega did the defining dance of the era.

It’s a Wonderful Life

In a conversation between George and Mary, we find out the origin of coconuts, requirements for joining the National Geographic Society, and that Mary will love George ‘til the day she dies all in the time it takes to scoop ice cream.

Pope Francis Welcomes Spring With Free Ice Cream For The Homeless

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Pope Francis Welcomes Spring With Free Ice Cream For The Homeless

In celebration of his name day, the feast of St George, Pope Francis is treating 3,000 homeless people in Rome to gelato in his latest act of charity for the destitute. The Office of Papal charities reported to Italian news agency Ansa that the internationally beloved desert would be available to those receiving assistance at soup kitchens and homeless centers in the Rome.

As Rome temperatures rise to unseasonable levels, typically not expected till the peak of summer, the gelato is a particularly thoughtful treat for the city’s population living in poverty.

From the CatholicHerald.co.uk:

“The Pontiff has emphasized care for the poor and marginalized as a key theme of his papacy, saying that “we should be worried when our consciences are anesthetized and we longer see the brother or sister suffering at our side”. He has previously advised Catholics to give money to the homeless and not worry about how it is spent. Archbishop Krajewski’s office frequently distributes sleeping bags to the homeless, manages several shelters and invited several homeless people to have breakfast with Pope Francis on the occasion of his 80th birthday.”

3 Easy Exercises To Balance Out A Weekly Dessert Indulgence

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_3 Easy Exercises To Balance Out A Weekly Dessert Indulgence

We all deserve a sweet frozen dessert now and again, but it’s wise to balance indulgences with a bit of physical activity. Here are a few easy, everyday exercises you can try that will counter the few extra calories you enjoy during a visit to Frenzi Frozen Yogurt:

Plie Squat — Live your Nutcracker fantasies with this ballerina-inspired move. Stand tall with feet wider than shoulders, legs straight, abs engaged, and toes turned out at a 45-degree angle. Inhale and bend only your knees—not your waist—until your thighs are nearly parallel to the floor.

Core Contraction — While seated place both hands on your stomach. Inhale and expand your belly, feeling your hands move out. Exhale and contract your abdominals, pulling them in toward your spine. Maintain the contraction for 30 counts (don’t forget to breathe!) Repeat 10 times

Work Those Legs — Simply enjoy your frozen yogurt, ice cream or milkshake during a stroll up and down Historic Downtown Gresham’s Main Street. Window shop with your dessert and before you know it your calorie intake will just about be a wash (granted you’ve gone easy on your candy toppings).

Treat Yourself – The Frenzi Guide To Self Care

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_Treat Yourself - The Frenzi Guide To Self Care

It seems as if we’ve had an argument with winter, and winter keeps leaving the room in a huff, only to burst back into the room a minute later to scream, “And another thing…!”

Needless to say, this back and forth relationship we’ve been having with winter is wearing on our nerves. But we’ve got a temporary solution to the cold grey skies that are preventing us from frolicking in true springtime fashion — desserts.

It’s a scientific fact that ice cream (and by association, frozen yogurt) makes you happy. This theory has been proven with numerous studies, including this one from European neuroscientist collective NeuroSci:

“…eating ice cream activates the part of the brain called the Orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), which indicates the positive emotional pleasure and reward value of the ice cream.”

(but) we also found activation in other areas of the brain:

– The primary somatosensory cortex — activated by the texture and temperature of the ice cream

– The insula cortex — activated by the taste of the ice cream. This area also monitors and regulates the body’s physical state

– The motor cortex — activated by the mouth movements involved in eating this ice cream

– The dorso-lateral prefrontal cortex — activity in this area reflects attention to the ‘exciting’ ice cream stimulus

– The retro-splenial cyngulate — activity here reflects the internal emotional check on how I am feeling

Why You Should Visit Frenzi’s Patio This Week

Frenzi Frozen Yogert_birthdays

It’s Patio Season!

What does spring look like in Gresham? We suppose it begins with infinite clear blue skies dotted with cottony white clouds, low enough to catch the tops of the evergreens that surround us like fine gossamer on rough foxtail. Then, the daffodils arrive, heralding a new season with a luminous pronouncement of yellow; tiny teacups teetering askew on their saucers, bouncing in a warm breeze scented with spring’s first rosebuds, and lifting entire nebulas of fallen cherry blossoms from the ground in an elegant, everlasting pirouette.

Springtime in Gresham is a time to reflect on renewal and rebirth. Our unique geography, equidistant to towering mountain peak and furious coastline, crisscrossed with glittering rivers and spacious forest and stippled with dormant volcanoes, offers a magnificent vantage point, a particular perspective on the wealth and beauty inherent in nature.

Everyone has a favorite Oregon season. Autumn tops the list with its firework-like spectacle of changing leaves, followed closely by summer and it’s patiently awaited long days and balmy nights. Winter charms our hearts with the tease of sparkling snowfall before plunging us into the long darkness of a new year. And then we arrive, lighthearted and painfully pale, in the pollenized sunshower of our favorite season, spring.

Or as well like to call it, The Start of Patio Season.

3 More Seasonal Sundaes For Spring

Frenzi Frozen Yogurt_3 More Seasonal Sundaes For Spring

Historic Downtown Gresham’s authoritative resource for all things ice cream and candy is also thrilled to offer seasonal varieties of frozen yogurt. As spring finally settles into the curbside planters and parkside garden beds, we’ve been hard at work, masterminding three new spring-themed DIY sundaes for all of Gresham’s froyo enthusiasts to enjoy.

Strawberry Lemonade Indulgence

What says spring has sprung better than an icy glass of fresh squeezed strawberry lemonade; it’s a perfect way to welcome warmer seasons. Top a cup of this titular froyo with gummi worms, crushed Oreos, and fresh raspberries to celebrate Gresham’s most fragrant season.

Classic Fruit Tart

Start with generous pours of guava pear tart froyo and Georgia peach froyo. Top these with a final dollop of cake batter froyo before topping the entire shebang with hot fudge and whipped cream.

Popcorn Turtle

Blend classic chocolate froyo with salted caramel corn froyo to create a base for your modern interpretation of the classic turtle chocolate candy. Top your froyo with a blend of peanuts, almonds and hot fudge to perfect the homage.
